Alberta under fire

I have had my own issues recently which is why this blog has taken a back seat for the moment, but the crisis in Alberta spurred me to at least get something down as my own small way of helping.

Of course the Red Cross is on the ground running, but some other organizations that will need your donations now and in the coming months, probably years, will be listed too.

The fire in bullets:

  • Firefighters estimate that the blaze has spread over 156,000 hectares and they worry that it might double in size given the present weather conditions
  • 1,600 structures have been lost
  • 88,000 people have been evacuated with no sign of when they can return home, if they have a home to return to
  • People have been airlifted to safety and others are leaving by convoy when the fire and weather permits

It will take a lot of effort and money to rebuild, but communities are strong.  Humanity is strong.
